چکیده

Evidence of high-velocity features such as those seen in the near-maximum spectra of some Type Ia Supernovae (e.g. SN 2000cx) has been searched for in the available SN Ia spectra observed earlier than one week before B maximum. Recent observational efforts have doubled the number of SNe Ia with very early spectra. Remarkably, all SNe Ia with early data (7 in our RTN sample and 10 from other programmes) show signs of such features, to a greater or lesser degree, in Ca ii IR, and some also in Si ii λλ 6255Å line. High-velocity features may be interpreted as abundance or density enhancements. Abundance enhancements would imply an outer region dominated by Si and Ca. Density enhancements may result from the sweeping up of circumstellar material by the highest velocity SN ejecta. In this scenario, the high incidence of HVFs suggests that a thick disc INAF-Osserv. On the Absence of Cosmic Acceleration

The unexpected faintness of distant Type Ia Supernovae (SNe) has been used by many to argue for an accelerated expansion of the universe. However, observations of nearby SNe show high velocity and polarized features in all SNe Ia, indicating that the single degenerate paradigm for Type Ia SNe is drastically and catastrophically invalid. By now it is also clear that an extreme version of the axi...

SNLS Spectroscopy: Testing for Evolution in Type Ia Supernovae

Aims. We present a quantitative study of a new data set of high redshift Type Ia supernovae spectra, observed at the Gemini telescopes during the first 34 months of the Supernova Legacy Survey. During this time 123 supernovae candidates were observed, of which 87 have been identified as SNe Ia at a median redshift of z = 0.720. Spectra from the entire second year of the survey and part of the t...

Type Ia Supernova Spectral Features in the Context of Their Host Galaxy Properties

We analyse spectroscopic measurements of 122 type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) with z < 0.09 discovered by the Palomar Transient Factory, focusing on the properties of the Si iiλ6355 and Ca ii ‘near-infrared triplet’ absorptions. We examine the velocities of the photospheric Si iiλ6355, and the velocities and strengths of the photospheric and high-velocity Ca ii, in the context of the stellar mass (M...

Sn 1984a and Delayed Detonation Models of Type Ia Supernovae

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT SN 1984A shows unusually large expansion velocities in lines from freshly synthesized material, relative to typical Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia). SN 1984A is an example of a group of SNe Ia which have very large blue-shifts of the P-Cygni features, but otherwise normal spectra. We have modeled several early spectra of SN 1984A with the multipurpose NLTE model a...
